The day has finally arrived! Sophie has only been either worrying about it or eagerly anticipating it or a combination of both for about 2 months now… and at long last the day has arrived! Her first day of first grade! It was a long one… she got on the bus at 8:22 this morning and didn’t get off the bus until 3:30! Max and I had LOTS of time to get things done and play and have lunch and a snack, and play and eat yet another snack…. he kept asking me “Is it time to go get Soph (from the bus) yet?” I think he will enjoy some extra Mommy time (and he starts Pre-K next week, 4 afternoons a week) but I also think he’s going to miss his big sister, too. Her teacher this year is Mr. Romano, and he is who I was hoping we’d get as everything I hear about him sounds just fantastic. He has a reputation as being very on top of it, having high expectations for his students but also really making sure they are set up for success, too. So, take a look through the pictures to see what I mean and check out the pics I got of Sophie’s day. She rode the bus but Mr. Romano requested parents come up for the first few minutes of the day to hear about the daily schedule, etc. So, I got to get some photos of her starting off her day in her classroom which is pretty cool. Next up… Max’s start next Monday! Enjoy!
- All ready for her first day!
- Side shot to show off her backpack!
- it’s kind of gloomy but boy her reflective straps do the trick!
- Max is ready to walk her to the bus stop.
- Her good friend Sadie… lots of emotions under the surface I think…
- waiting for the bus together, but they are in different classes this year…
- She got on so fast I missed her!
- She didn’t take the first row seat this time either… she’s sitting in the middle of the bus with the bigger kids… sniff sniff.
- Can you spot Sophie-she ran up to the front to give her friend Sophie H. a big hug while waiting for entrance bell to ring.
- Mr. Romano her teacher. We like him already and it’s only the first day!
- putting away her lunch bag and backpack.
- Sitting at her desk!
- Sneaking in a quick story before class starts…
- I think she looks happy to be here…
- Going through the schedule of their day (power point-woot- we love him!)
- 2nd half of their day… Sophie was pretty excited when she heard they had 3 recesses!
- Bye bye Mom!! (at least I didn’t cry this year…)
- Here comes the afternoon bus… the BIG one this year!
- first one off…and HOW was your day?
- “It was GREAT!!” she says.
- During project time, this is what she made…

Do you think the back pack is big enough?
Nice first day tour of events, thanks Wally.
